Course Type

Equipment operating.

Course Purpose

This course is for a worker whom operates an Overhead Crane, ideal for experienced and new operators.

This course DOES NOT include Rigging training.

Training Method

In-person, pratical lessons with an overhead crane.

Class Size

2 - 8 students.

Training Duration

6 - 8 hours (depending on student's skill and knowledge).

Training Locations

In-person training at the customer's location, with the customer's equipment.

Customer Requirements

Customer supplied overhead crane and load for practical lessons.

Student Requirements

Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (provided by student):

  1. PPE as per the training location requirements.
  2. Safety boots, hard hat, high visibility vest/jacket/overall.

Training Certification

Digital training card as proof of training, includes hyperlinked class photos and course material. Valid for 3 years.

Literature

Theory Lessons

  1. Reference to applicable OHS Regulations (Federal, Provincial).
  2. Reference to applicable CSA standards and ASME standards.
  3. Operator responsibilities.
  4. Manufacturer specifications for the equipment being trained on.
  5. Hazard and Risk Assessment for operating the equipment safely in the workplace.
  6. Safe operating procedures.
  7. Hand signals and working with a spotter.
  8. Equipment purpose and limitations.
  9. Equipment preventive maintenance practices.
  10. Equipment inspection criteria.
  11. Equipment lockout.

Documentation Lessons

  1. Completing a Hazard and Risk Assessment.
  2. Completing a pre-use inspection checklist.
  3. Completing a Lift Plan.

Practical Lessons

  1. Inspecting the Overhead Crane components.
  2. Operating the Overhead Crane.
  3. Locking out the Overhead Crane.
  4. Hand signals.
  5. Practical lifting of loads.
