Course Type:  Safety Training

Course Purpose

This course is for a student whom utilizes rigging (lifting) equipment for material lifting and handling.

Lifting equipment includes: chain slings, wire rope slings, synthetic slings and shackles.

This course does not include training to operate powered lifting machinery.

Skill Level:  Level 1

Training Method:  In person.

Class Size:  3 - 12 students

Training Duration:  3 - 8 hours (depending on student's skill and knowledge).

Training Locations

Calgary Region:  In person training at the customer's workplace.

Vancouver Region:  In person training at our Surrey training facility or at the customer's workplace.

Vancouver Island Region:  In person training at the customer's workplace.

 

Student Requirements

  1. Be the minimum age for the worksite.
  2. Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (provided by student):
    1. PPE as per the training location requirements.
    2. Safety boots, hard hat, high visibility vest/jacket/overall.

Training Certification

Digital training card as proof of training, includes hyperlinked class photos and course material. Valid for 3 years.

Course Price

Private Group Class: $2,000.00 (minimum charge of 8 students).

Additional Students: $250.00 per student.

Extra Costs: Mobilization fee for private group class scheduled at the customer's workplace.

Extra Costs: Out of town travel when applicable.

 

Theory Lessons

  1. Reference to applicable OHS Regulations (Federal, Provincial).
  2. Reference to applicable CSA standards and ASME standards.
  3. Responsibilities for the Rigger.
  4. Specifications, inspection criteria and rejection criteria for synthetic slings, chain slings and wire rope slings.
  5. Specifications, inspection criteria and rejection criteria for shackles.
  6. Safety factors for lifting equipment.
  7. Sling tension factors.
  8. D/d ratios.
  9. Workplace safety and safe rigging procedures.

 

Practical Lessons

  1. Inspecting and application of lifting slings (chain, wire rope, synthetic).
  2. Inspecting and application of shackles.
  3. Application of common rigging knots (for tagline).
  4. Hand signals.
  5. Lift planning.
  6. Practical lifting of loads.
