Aerial Work Platform (Boom Lift) Training

Description

Training Duration:  6-8 hours (depending on student's skill and knowledge).

Delivery Method:  In person at the customer's location.

Equipment Requirements: Customer supplied Boom Lift.

Course Literature: Accessible with mobile application.

Training Card: Digital with hyperlinked class photos and course material. Valid for 3 years.

PPE Required: CSA approved work boots and hard hat, safety glasses, gloves.

Student Prerequisite: Fall Protection training.

Large Employers: Access to OOSHEW's robust training database (training records from your employees and your subcontractors).


Course Summary

This training is for workers who operate a Boom Lift (Self-Propelled Boom Supported Elevating Work Platform) in the workplace.

Common boom types are “straight boom” and  “articulating boom”.

 

Theory Lessons

  • Applicable OH&S Regulations (Federal and Provincial).

  • Applicable CSA Standards.

  • Manufacturer specifications for the model being trained on.

  • Hazard and risk assessment for workplace safety.

  • Safe operating procedures.

  • Hand signals and working with a spotter.

  • Safe approach limits to energized equipment and power lines.

  • Stability and working envelope.

  • Roles of a spotter/signal person.

  • Preventive maintenance.

  • Equipment transport.

  • Rescue scenarios.


  • Practical Lessons

  • Inspection of the Boom Lift and surrounding work area.

  • Operating the Boom Lift and communicating with a spotter.

  • Use of personal fall protection equipment.

  • Emergency lowering procedures.

  • Rescue drill.

  •
