Course Type

Equipment operating.

Course Purpose

This course is for a worker whom operates an Aerial Bucket Truck (Vehicle Mounted Mobile Elevating Work Platform), ideal for experienced and new operators.

Training Method

In-person, practical lessons with a bucket truck.

Class Size

2 - 8 students.

Training Duration

6 - 8 hours (depending on student's skill and knowledge).

Training Locations

In-person training at the customer's location, with the customer's equipment.

Customer Requirements

  1. Customer supplied aerial bucket truck.
  2. Personal fall protection (harness and lanyard) for each student.

Student Requirements

  1. Have current Fall Protection (Harness and Lanyard) training.
  2. Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (provided by student):
    1. PPE as per the training location requirements.
    2. Safety boots, hard hat, high visibility vest/jacket/overall.
    3. Personal fall protection (harness and lanyard).

Training Certification

Digital training card as proof of training, includes hyperlinked class photos and course material. Valid for 3 years.

Theory Lessons

  1. Applicable OHS Regulations (Federal, Provincial).
  2. Applicable CSA Standards.
  3. Operator responsibilities.
  4. Manufacturer specifications for the equipment being trained on.
  5. Hazard and Risk Assessment for operating the equipment safely in the workplace.
  6. Safe operating procedures.
  7. Safe approach limits to energized equipment and power lines.
  8. Hand signals and working with a spotter.
  9. Equipment purpose and limitations.
  10. Equipment stability and working envelope.
  11. Equipment preventive maintenance practices.
  12. Equipment inspection criteria.
  13. Equipment transport.
  14. Emergency lowering procedures.
  15. Rescue planning.

Documentation Lessons

  1. Completing a Hazard and Risk Assessment.
  2. Completing a pre-use inspection checklist.

Practical Lessons

  1. Inspecting the Bucket Truck and surrounding work area.
  2. Operating the Bucket Truck and communicating with a spotter.
  3. Use of personal fall protection equipment.
  4. Executing emergency lowering of the Bucket Truck's work platform.
  5. Executing the rescue of a worker from the Bucket Truck's work platform.
