During your training you will learn how to don and correctly fit a full-body harness, use a lanyard and operate an aerial bucket truck provided by the employer.
Is my aerial bucket truck operator training certificate valid in Alberta and British Columbia?
Yes, the training covers commonalities between Alberta, British Columbia and Canadian Federal OHS regulations. The training certificate does not state validity for only one province, location or employer.
Is my aerial bucket truck operator training certificate valid to operate a scissor lift or boom lift.
No. A bucket truck, boom lift and scissor lift are all “aerial devices” however each device is a different classification. Each of these aerial devices have different configurations for the platform controls and ground controls. One main difference of a bucket truck is that it is mounted to a vehicle (cargo van, heavy duty truck, transport truck).
Do I require a motor vehicle driver’s license to operate a bucket truck?
No, a driver’s license is not required if you are only operating the aerial device (bucket). A driver’s license is required if you are driving the vehicle.
Is online aerial bucket truck operator training accepted on Alberta and British Columbia worksites?
Online-only training is generally not accepted on most worksites in Alberta and British Columbia, as regulators and employers expect practical, hands-on competency demonstration. OOSHEW's training includes practical exercises with real equipment to meet this requirement.
