Folding Boom Crane

OOSHEW's Folding Boom Crane (also known as a knuckle boom crane) Operating course prepares experienced operators to challenge the Fulford Level A Certification Assessment, and helps new operators work toward their Level B provisional license. Courses run 1 to 5 days, delivered on-site on your own crane, across Calgary, Alberta and Metro Vancouver, BC. The course includes crane inspection and operation, load handling, rigging, and load chart comprehension.

How Many Training Dates Should I Book?

• One day training is typically sufficient for experienced crane operators who are preparing to challenge their Level A Assessment. These operators contact us to refresh their math skills, inspection criteria, safe load planning, and crane target practice. Cost: $3,000 for the first student, $1,000 per additional student (max 4 per class).
• Two days of training is typically sufficient for experienced crane operators who require Rigging training. These operators contact us to focus on crane load charts, rigging criteria, and rigging calculations. 2 Day Cost: $6,000 for the first student, $2,000 per additional student (max 4 per class).
• Three days of training is typically sufficient for novice crane operators (minimal experience) who need structured lessons to prepare them for their Level A Assessment, or to obtain their Level B provisional license. 3 Day Cost: $9,000 for the first student, $3,000 per additional student (max 4 per class).
• Four to five days of training is recommended for new crane operators (no experience). 4 Day Cost: $12,000 for the first student, $4,000 per additional student (max 4 per class). 5 Day Cost: $15,000 for the first student, $5,000 per additional student (max 4 per class).

Class Details

Class Size: ranges from 1 to 4 students. 3 students is the average.

Duration: 1 to 5 days depending on experience level (see above: How Many Training Dates Should I Book?).

Training Location: at the client’s workplace in Alberta or British Columbia. No cost or downtime shipping your crane to a training facility.

Equipment: The client provides the crane, traffic safety cones, spill kit, load, and the required lifting/rigging gear for the load.

Folding Boom Crane Operator Training Certificate

Students who successfully complete the course receive a digital training certificate, valid for 3 years, recognized by employers across Canada. Do you provide training in other cities?

Yes, travel fees and accommodation may apply.

Can we run the training virtually?

No, this training must be in-person, hands-on, with practical operation of a folding boom crane.

What PPE is required during the training?

Safety shoes (CSA steel-toed), comfortable clothes (jeans, t-shirt, shirt, hoodie), hard hat, and gloves. Additional PPE workwear may be required; the employer will inform the instructor and students of the expectations.

Is a knuckle boom crane and folding boom crane the same type of crane?

Yes, both names are used interchangeably.

Is my folding boom crane operator training certificate the same as a crane license?

No, the training certificate is proof the person completed a training course. To obtain a crane operator license review the requirements as published on BC Crane Safety.

Do I require a motor vehicle driver’s license to operate a folding boom crane?

No, a driver’s license is not required if you are only operating the crane. A driver’s license is required if you are driving the vehicle.

Is online folding boom crane operator training accepted on Alberta and British Columbia worksites?

Online-only training is generally not accepted on most worksites in Alberta and British Columbia, as regulators and employers expect practical, hands-on competency demonstration. OOSHEW's training includes practical exercises with real equipment to meet this requirement.
